Nob Hill Apartment

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, from beginning to end. Stone Interiors’ process is calm, thorough, collaborative — and fun. I learned so much. Stacy is great at setting expectations, and she’s also great at restraint. This apartment relaxes me. — the Client

Many city dwellers dream of getting away to the country on the weekend to relax and recharge. This client was the reverse. His primary residence is in Silicon Valley. He loved the idea of having a pied à terre in the city, where he could unwind and entertain friends. The dramatic views from this apartment sold him in a heartbeat: the towers and buttresses of Grace Cathedral on one side and San Francisco Bay (including Coit Tower) on another.

We always consider the views to be part of an interior. Here, we echoed the cathedral’s architectural spirit in a modern way.

The apartment is compact, so we opened it up for an expansive feel. The minimal window treatments are designed to disappear. The client loves the look and feel of mid-century, so we sourced vintage pieces whose silhouettes evoke the mood of the Gothic cathedral.

The deep, rich tones of the furnishings are balanced by the abundant natural light and the cityscape at night. We designed a dining table with a glass top back-painted in eggplant, resting on two black Saarinen bases. The table has a reflective quality, such that it appears to float.
