Carmel Mediterranean
I absolutely love living here. For me—and my guests—it’s indoor-outdoor living at its finest. From the first walk-through, Stacy’s instincts for reconfiguring the house and the terraces were game changers. My 1930s Carmel stone house is now full of light. Stacy seems to have a sixth sense, and she just glides through the process. I spend so much time on the new ocean-view terrace, which looks like it’s always been this way. — The Client
Working with the landscape architects for this project allowed both teams to figure out how the interior and the exterior coud merge gracefully. We always prefer to meet with our design partners early in the process, to share inspirations and creative possibilities, and set the direction as a unified whole: a strong single vision.
To make the kitchen feel and function like the heart of this cottage, it was opened up with paned glass doors at both ends, giving onto two new terraces.
Though the home is compact, it now “lives large.” When the client entertains from the kitchen, he doesn’t miss out on the guests’ conversations on either terrace. And from the garden fountain, you can look all the way through the house to the wrap-around terrace with ocean view. There’s always a sense of unfolding, from once space to the next to the view beyond.
The primary suite now feels magically secluded, and the soaking tub offers a garden view, constantly shifting natural light, and the mesmerizing sound from the fountain below.
